Valentine’s is just around the corner and listening to a bit of Burt Bacharach’s music this past week, (without sounding too cliché), I was a bit taken back by how one of his songs, What the World Needs Now, is so in tune to today’s world’s situation. Spread Love: 50 Adorable Cards For Every Valentine

Love is love.

It’s been a minute! But of course I couldn’t miss out on posting one of my favourite round-ups of the year with the day of love just around the corner. Valentine’s Day is almost here, a way to honour love and strengthen the bond between loved ones and which also happens to be a favourite around here. 4 Adorable + Valentine Origami DIYs

So origami! As I had mentioned on my Instagram last week when I posted one of these Valentine-inspired projects, I’m now in the origami phase of the pandemic, and to be honest I’m finding making them is super-soothing (especially with loved ones in mind). Origami has always been that way for me, almost a form of meditation when you get into the flow. But first off, I want to give a hat tip to a couple makers over on YouTube, (ColorMania and Tatiana Frolova) who inspired me and have some excellent origami tutorials there if you have some time be sure to check them out! Okay, let’s take a look!

1. Easy Origami Valentine Bows

What you need:

Various square sheets of 20lb paper (or origami paper) evenly square

A little patience

So this origami fold which I initially spotted on Pinterest is one of the funnest origami things I’ve made in a while. And so so cute! I thought they would be fun to top a sweet box of chocolates or something special for the ones you love. As you’ll see below, I made them different sizes; all you need is the original piece of paper to be completely square to make. This project is fairly easy, so even older kids should be able to make it. The reward is impressive! Visit the link in the “what you need” for the how to.

2. Origami Roses

What you need:

Various square sheets of 20lb paper (or origami paper) evenly square

A little patience

This second one, the origami rose, although easy, is a little trickier to tame. The paper I used was a little thicker, so it didn’t curl as much as I would’ve liked. But still, a beautiful rose to give to someone special is the result. I thought they might look nice to decorate a table with. Or check out my last idea at the end of this post. Btw, I think I need to take some red colour photography courses. So hard to get right.

3. Origami Paper Heart With Wings

What you need:

Various square sheets of 20lb paper (or origami paper) evenly square

A little patience

This is another fave and totally mailable too I thought. I’ve added them to the garland I made (below), but would also make a great gift topper!

4. Heart Door Garland

What you’ll need:

A collection of origami hearts you just made

Some string

Tape

Tacks

So now that you’ve made all these hearts, you can create a garland for your door if you wish (or just send them off to all your Valentines)! I basically just lined the hearts up how I wanted them to look, folded the heart or rose flaps over the string (see image below) and taped them around the string —allowing the string to pull through loosely so it’s easier to arrange.

DIY | No-Sew Je T’aime Pennant

With Valentine’s just around the corner (only a month away), with a super-easy no-sew project, we are kicking off the month of love a “Je T’aime and/or “Love” pennant for the one you love! I love this project as it’s a little less sugary sweet for the guys for a gift, and would also just make for a nice little something for yourself (for your home office), or maybe even your teen’s room. Whatever you use it for, it’s a fun project and we hope you’ll try it out! Check it out below!

No-Sew “Je T’aime” Pennant

This is a simple project that requires no sewing machine. Everything is done with a glue gun and iron-on embroidery letters. And it can be done in less than an hour!

What you’ll need:
1 large piece of felt (2′ x 1′)
1 small piece of felt (12″x 10″)
Iron-On Embroidery Letters (available at any craft store) to spell out what you’d like. (Note: for the accent in “Je T’aime” I just cut out a small black triangle, and glued it onto a larger white triangle – remnants from the backing of the iron-on embroidery letters)
Glue gun
Scissors
2 foot long piece of newspaper
pencil

Step One:
With a pencil, draw a pattern of a triangle out on a piece of newspaper. Measure it to be (24″ wide and 9″ high). Cut out the triangle.

Step Two:
Pin the cut out pattern you just made from newspaper onto the large piece of felt. Cut out the felt around the pattern. Set aside.

Step Three:
From the smaller piece of felt (the black in our case), cut a 1/2 inch wide by 9 inches wide piece for the long border (angled on each end to the shape of the triangle. And then cut 4 small pieces (the black in our case), 4 inches long by 1/2 inch wide.

Step Four:
Hot glue on the first small (4″) piece about one inch from the top of the 9 inch side , and then glue the second small piece on top of it. Repeat at the bottom. Then hot glue the long 9 inch piece on top to cover them both.

Step Five:
Line up your letters and center how you would like. Then remove the sticky back and apply!

Step Six:
Send to your Valentine! Or keep for yourself!

Polymer Gift Tag Tutorial

In July, I saw the new exchange program on Totally Tutorials. The idea behind it is that suppliers offer supplies in exchange for a tutorial. As you all know, I love making tutorials & I love supplies so I didn’t have to think twice. I applied for the nice set of 1.5mm letter/number stamps from Evie’s Tool Emporium. They arrived very soon after she decided who was going to get them, but I was so busy preparing for the craft fairs that I didn’t have much time to play around with them. Well, time has come to show you what I did with them…
I used polymer clay (Fimo) to create gift tags from them. I decided to try white and black and see what the results were.

Here is what you need:

Metal stamping letters/numbers set, polymer clay, acrylic paint, flat wooden sticks, ceramic tiles or glass, cookie cutters, rolling pin, embossing tool or fat needle, paper plate, paintbrush and a cloth.

How to:

Step 1: Take a piece of polymer clay and soften it while kneading.

Step 2: Put the flat wooden sticks on the ceramic tile (makes it easier to transfer to the oven) and roll with the rolling pin over the clay so that it’s nice, flat and even.

Step 3: When you rolled out a piece, lift it up carefully and transfer it to another tile so you can roll out more little clay slabs.

Step 4: Punch with your cookie cutters, figures out of the polymer clay slab.

I made two sets in black and white clay.

Step 5: Before you start using your letter stamp set, wipe it off with a soft cloth. The stamps are a bit oily to make sure they don’t start to rust.

Step 6: Before you start stamping, try your stamp on a sample of Polymer clay. This way you know how hard you have to press the stamp to get result and it will also be good to see if you’re not holding the stamp upside down.

Step 7: Hold the metal stamp tool as straight as possible and press lightly into the clay.

Step 8: Take your embossing tool or needle to punch a hole in the clay.

Step 9: Carefully take the piece of clay off the ceramic tile and punch with your embossingtool or needle on the backside of the clay so that the hole can be used.

Step 10: Preheat your oven to 110°C/230°F or read the instructions on the packaging of the polymer clay you are using.

Step 11: Thread a piece of string into the hole. In case you have a hard time getting the thread through the little hole, you can cut a small piece of metal wire and fold the metal thread in half and put the thread in between. Stick the metal thread through the little hole of the clay.
