A modern and striking build, the A-frame has warm and elegant touches, seating for 10 inside and out, a full service kitchen, and a suspended wood-burning stove — it’s the perfect backdrop for a special holiday getaway. The cabin sleeps 10 in one king bedroom, two queen bedrooms, and a loft with a sunken king bed and two single bunks that hideaway at the very top.

Lilla Norr | An A-Frame In the Woods

While we wait for travel to open up a bit more (especially cross-border), I’m sure like many of you, we’ve had plenty of time to dream and scout out places we’d eventually like to visit. One little gem I’ve uncovered as of late is Lilla Norr, (“Little North” in Swedish), a 1978 a-frame cabin located along the Snake River on 5 acres of woods in Brook Park, Minnesota.

Completely restored this vacation rental which the owners open up when they aren’t using it, is an extension of their vintage shop, Arlee Park, located in nearby Minneapolis. With a focus on sustainability, the a-frame’s interior shares era-specific pieces in the space.

Stunning Renderings for a Tiny Home in St. Petersburg

I came across these stunning renderings (hard to believe they’re not real), by Russian designer, Aleksey Uljanochkin recently. The proposed project is for a tiny home to be located a bit outside of Saint Petersburg.

At approximately 484 square feet with an almost 200 sq. ft terrace, the barn-style design was created with year-round living in mind. I’m loving the combination of the monochromatic blacks, natural woods and textured materials which create a cozy modern vibe that doesn’t distract from it’s rural surroundings. The layout of the living room with panoramic windows on both sides, allows for the dweller to take in the beautiful outdoor views. A small kitchen provides the basics with a dining table adjacent to the living room and the tiny house has two bedrooms and a folding sofa to accommodate visiting guests. Let’s take a look!

An Inspiring Modern Tiny House in Queensland

The home was designed by Aussie Tiny Houses based in Coolum Beach, Queensland, Australia, who offer a turn key solution for those looking to jump on the tiny home bandwagon. They offer a a few versions of homes, and this one named the Teewah 7.2 is their most popular family design Tiny House. The kitchen has a 2.7m long benchtop, with plenty of room for prepping meals, and also includes a pull-out pantry and a large bi-fold window that opens up onto the deck outside. The lounge is set up to hold space for a couch or sofa bed, and there are two queen size lofts (on opposite sides) which can be accessed via storage stairs on one side and a ladder on the other. An A-Frame Vacation Cabin Scandinavian Style

If you love A-Frames, you’re going to love this gorgeous boutique vacation cabin I came across recently through Lokal Hotels. Located less than an hour’s drive from Philadelphia in South Jersey, NJ, this recently renovated gem is situated on tow and a half acres with frontage along on the Maurice River.

Originally built in the 60’s using California Redwood, it was recently overhauled with a Scandinavian vibe and updated with modern comfort. Fitted with a commercial kitchen, 2 fire pits, a huge rear deck with a wood-fired hot tub, there’s even a makeshift private beach alongside the river.

Loving the contrast of plywood with black accents and the casual cabin style decor throughout. Definitely a cozy spot to bookmark and keep in mind, once this pandemic is over. For more info visit Lokal Hotel properties online.

The Lilypad | A Cozy Container Vacation Home

Inside, the windows offer a bright airy feel, bringing the outside in. The white interior and natural coloured accessories help to make it feel like the space is actually larger than it really is. The retro fridge and open shelving add a sense of coziness.

The motorized glass garage door opens up onto the outdoor living space with it’s large vaulted ceiling. In the summer there’s a large ceiling fan for hot days and string lights for a cozy ambience outside. Inside a fireplace keeps things warm for fall and winter months. The entire container is retrofit with all the modern ammenities from kitchen to a full bathroom with shower.

Build or DIY Your Own A-Frame

The simple style combined with the balanced aesthetic became a huge motivator for Brand. His goal was to renew the vintage relic of the past in a modern and appealing way. The objective was to create a structure that was affordable yet beautiful, but also allowed for DIY applications so you could save even more money but still have a great outcome.

Another piece of the pie when it came to motivation for creating the AYFRAYM was when a young married couple walked into the Everywhere Headquarters in Lehi, Utah. They explained that they had been looking for architects and contractors to design and build them an A-Frame for nearly two years but had been unsuccessful. At this moment, Brand knew they we’re on the right track and had to keep pressing forward to see it through to completion.

Container Cabin in the Catskills

If you’re looking for a unique spot to stay if you’re ever in the Catskills (New York) area this summer, this off-the-grid container cabin might be the spot. With a 30-foot waterfall (100 yards north of the cabin), staying in the cabin is an experience according to it’s owners, not just a simple overnight stay.

Lined in timber, the renovated container cabin offers everything you need for a rustic and tranquil experience including a DIY wood-fired hot tub (a 120-gallon galvanized tub) which uses the nearby stream water to fill it. There’s even a yoga platform if you’re so inclined and an outdoor fire pit.
